Here’s what some of our customers have said about using products from LexJet canvas line:

  • “We’ve tried a lot of canvas materials, and Sunset Production Gloss Canvas SUV was clearly the best material. Most of the canvas material we’ve tried, if you rubbed it or looked at it wrong, the ink would fall off of it, and when you stapled the canvas, it would tear, which was a big problem. This stuff is great, and it’s inexpensive.”   — Phil Crawford, Berea Printing
  • Sunset by Fredrix Satin Canvas SUV is the best canvas to date. Our color came out perfect; we have never seen a truer white hue before.  We have received numerous customer compliments, so they can definitely see the difference. Thank you for helping our business produce the highest quality at the best price.”   — Zach Gardynski, New Era Portfolio

Art at the Point of Sale with Inkjet Printed Canvas

Blue Moon Beer on Canvas by AW Artworks

Each brand has its own aesthetic. The advertising that surrounds that aesthetic should be consistent and appropriate to the brand. In the case of Blue Moon craft beer, the advertising focuses on the craft element, emphasizing a hand-painted rendering of the Blue Moon logo and artwork.

Inkjet Printed CanvasWhat better medium, then, than gallery-wrapped canvas? Tyler Peters, distributor beer merchant for Tenth and Blake Beer Company, the craft and import division of MillerCoors, found the canvas craftsman he was looking for in Andy Wredberg, owner of AW Artworks in Sun Prairie, Wis.

Peters is based in Madison, and wanted point of sale artwork that not only in tune with the Blue Moon aesthetic, but was also in tune with the downtown Madison vibe.

“We wanted to create something a lot different than a standard neon sign or banner; something that conveys what we should see in the Madison market,” says Peters. “The artwork ties into a food festival we have here in Madison called Isthmus a la Carts. We had an interactive Blue Moon mural at the event that consumers – over 21, of course – could paint and enjoy some Blue Moon beer, too.”

Blue Moon Mural
The Blue Moon canvas wraps printed by AW Artworks on Sunset Production Matte Canvas were based on this mural painted by attendees of the Isthmus a la Carts food festival in Madison, Wis.

It was a version of this mural that was sent to Wredberg to print and build the 2′ x 3′ canvas gallery wraps. Wredberg used LexJet Sunset Production Matte Canvas to produce the prints on his Canon iPF8300 44″ inkjet printer.

“They printed beautifully; I was very happy with the look and color saturation of the Sunset Production canvas,” says Wredberg. “They had a pretty tight budget, so I checked on the Sunset Production canvas since I felt it would allow us to get closer to their budget and since it was a longer production run for us.”

Wredberg tweaked the design he received from agency a bit to ensure it fit in the gallery wrap format and wrapped the canvas around 1 1/2″ stretcher bars. Now the 50 canvas gallery wraps are ready to be distributed to various bars in downtown Madison.

Wredberg will also print 50 more canvas gallery wraps to promote Batch 19, a pre-Prohibition style lager. Check back here for photos of the gallery wraps in their environment.

LexJet Makes Digital Output Magazine’s Readers’ Choice Award List

Digital Output Magazine Readers' Choice AwardsLexJet was recently included in Digital Output’s 19th Annual Top 50 Readers’ Choice Awards. Each year Digital Output’s readership dictates the top 50 winners and ten honorable mentions, as well each companies’ top products.

Using the magazine’s website metric system, www.DOdirect.net, the magazine tallies readers’ interest in companies and products throughout the year. This is done via requests made on print and Web editorial and advertisements as seen in the magazine, on the Web site, and in Digital Output’s weekly newsletter the Digital Queue.

This year, readers voted for the following as LexJet’s top new products:

  • LexJet Poly Select Blockout Fabric: LexJet Poly Select Blockout Fabric is a 14-mil bright-white polyester fabric with a blockout layer that provides greater opacity. Compatible with aqueous and latex inks, the fabric lays flat, minimizing edge curl and making it easy to work with in production. The water-resistant coating provides exceptional imaging quality with a wide color gamut and higher ink saturation for rich, brilliant, eye-catching color. Poly Select Blockout Fabric is an excellent alternative to scrim banner for durable banner applications.
  • Sunset Production Matte Canvas: Print shops and art reproduction companies looking for an economical inkjet-printable canvas alternative for longer production runs that provides consistent quality can now add LexJet Sunset Production Matte Canvas to their arsenal. It is a bright-white, water-resistant 100% polyester matte canvas with the look and feel of a traditional 2-over-1 weave for all types of art and décor applications. It’s designed to work flawlessly with Sunset Gloss Coating and Sunset Satin Coating, either sprayed or rolled on.
  • FaceMount-X Removable Adhesive: LexJet FaceMount-X Removable Adhesive has a permanent solvent acrylic adhesive on one side where the graphic is applied facing out and a removable solvent acrylic adhesive on the other side where it’s applied to the inside of the window. The air flow release liner on the removable side makes installation quick, easy and bubble-free. Once the promotion or campaign is over, the graphic is easily removed with no residue.

“The Top 50 Readers’ Choice Awards identify some of the most innovative vendors in the graphic arts,” says Tom Tetreault, editor-in-chief/publisher, Digital Output.

The 2013 Top 50 Readers’ Choice Award winners will be included in the November issue of Digital Output as part of both the print and digital versions, which is expected to be distributed on Oct. 25. Go to www.digitaloutput.net for more information and to subscribe.

The Professional’s Choice: LexJet Sunset Inkjet Products Win Hot One Awards

Professional Photographer Magazine Hot One AwardA panel of judges made up of professional photographers selected LexJet Sunset Production Matte Canvas and Sunset Fibre Rag for 2013 Hot One Awards.

The annual Hot One Awards recognize photography and imaging products the judges consider their top choices and the hottest products of the year in a number of categories, including inkjet printers, inkjet media, cameras, software and more. Winning products will be featured in Professional Photographer’s August 2013 issue and at www.ppmag.com.

“The Hot One Awards help us establish a benchmark for future product development by providing insight into the types of inkjet media photographers, fine art reproduction companies and wide format print shops need for a successful and profitable print workflow,” says Dione Metnick, LexJet product manager. “We continue to work closely with our printer manufacturer partners – Canon, Epson and HP – to bring inkjet media to the market that maximizes their latest technology innovations and ink sets while providing a consistent and reliable product to our customers.”

Sunset Fibre Rag won a Hot One Award in the Fine-art Paper category and Sunset Production Matte Canvas won in the Canvas category, taking two of the five Inkjet Media categories.

LexJet’s previous Hot One Award winners include: Sunset Photo Metallic Paper, Sunset Select Gloss Canvas, LexJet 8 Mil ImagePro Satin, Sunset Photo eSatin PaperSunset Fibre GlossSunset Fibre EliteSunset Fine Art Satin SUV by HahnemuhleLexJet Prime Gloss SUVSunset Velvet Rag 315g and Sunset Select Matte Canvas.

Sunset Fibre Rag wins Hot One Award
Jon Scott, owner of JS Graphics Inc., Chicago, has made Sunset Fibre Rag a staple of his fine art printing for its wide color gamut, consistency and flexibility.

Sunset Fibre Rag, introduced in March 2012, was developed based on demand from photographers and fine art reproduction companies looking for the high-end air-dried look and feel on a 100 percent cotton rag base.

“This paper has a great Dmax, the color gamut is pretty amazing and the surface is nice and consistent,” says Jon Scott, owner of JS Graphics Inc., a fine art reproduction company based in Chicago. “It also comes in various sheet and roll sizes, which is great, because it gives us more flexibility in our printing.”

Sunset Production Matte Canvas Wins Hot One Award
Richard Herschberger, owner of Herschberger Galerie, Arthur, Ill., says he gets “more bang for the buck” from Sunset Production Matte Canvas.

Sunset Production Matte Canvas, introduced in December 2012, complements LexJet’s Sunset Canvas line by providing an economical but consistent option for higher production workflows.

“Of course I really like the price of this new canvas from LexJet, but it still provides good color reproduction. It has a little more tooth to show the canvas texture for mass production projects that require that look,” says Richard Herschberger, owner of Herschberger Galerie in Arthur, Ill. “I also like the fact that I can get it in 60-foot rolls so I’m not changing it out as often; you get more bang for the buck that way.”

Promotional Production with Sunset Production Matte Canvas

Printing photos on canvas

Always looking for an edge, Dan Johnson, owner of Dan Johnson Photography in Grand Rapids, Mich., has found one with LexJet’s new Sunset Production Matte Canvas.

A longtime proponent of the Sunset canvas line, particularly Sunset Select Matte Canvas, Johnson was looking for a canvas that would split the difference between consistent quality and economy for his “mass market” work.

When it comes to custom canvas projects, Johnson generally sticks with the more high-end Sunset Select Matte Canvas, but he also prints what he calls a “promotional” product: consumers find Johnson through an online promotional site and send Johnson a photo they want on canvas. It’s quick and easy for Johnson to produce and provides a consistent cash flow, he says.

The Sunset Production Matte Canvas helps boost margins a bit and those on the receiving end are quite happy with what they’re getting.

“We got our first roll of the canvas recently and printed 10 to 12 pieces from it right off the bat. Within a couple of days, clients who received their canvases left really positive comments on Facebook or directly through email,” says Johnson. “My first impression of the canvas was that it lets light through, but once you coat it, paper the back and hang it on the wall it doesn’t matter. No one hangs it with light purposely showing from the back. Ultimately, I was impressed: the color comes off just right and it works perfectly with Sunset Satin Coating. And, because it’s not as thick, it’s easier to stretch and make the corners look really nice.”

When Johnson fulfills the order he includes a coupon that sends these customers to his website for more.

“We hope we get them back and that they’ll want more canvas or other types of prints. We can provide a fairly consistent cash flow with these promotional offers. The cost savings with the Sunset Production Matte Canvas is fantastic and is very helpful for us with these promotional products,” says Johnson.
