Grizzly Creek Gallery Helps Bring Serenity of Nature to High-Stress Workplaces

Georgetown, Colorado is a former silver-mining camp nestled in the mountains about 45 minutes west of Denver. Although the town only has about 1,000 year-round residents, a steady stream of tourists visit Georgetown to get a sense of what life must have been like during the Colorado Silver Boom in 1850s. The well-preserved, historic town has proven to be the ideal location for the Grizzly Creek Gallery operated by nature and wildlife photographer Gary Haines and his wife.  And in fact, the gallery is located in the town’s first framed commercial building, which dates back to 1867.

Most images displayed in the gallery are Gary’s, but the Grizzly Creek Gallery also represents other photographers who specialize in Colorado scenics. In addition to selling a wide selection of matted prints, notecards, and decorative furnishings to tourists, Grizzly Creek Gallery offers customized mounting and framing services and large-format digital printing. Gary also provides complimentary, on-site consultations to interior designers and art consultants who want help choosing which images would work best with existing home or office décor.

Photography Pro Kent Foster Converts Images into Permanent Wallcoverings

When visitors enter the production room at Fostergraphs in Decorah, Iowa, they get the distinct impression that they aren’t in Iowa anymore. The overall effect is “Wow!”

That’s because company owner/professional photographer Kent Foster has converted two images he originally shot for stock photography into visually dramatic wallcoverings. He printed the wallcoverings himself using LexJet’s new inkjet-printable WallPro SUV wallcovering material on his 64-in. Epson Stylus Pro GS6000 low-solvent printer.

Foster plans to use his imaging expertise and 64-in. printing equipment to help other photographers and artists convert their images into new types of products, such as murals and wallcoverings.  For commercial and residential customers, he is offering a concept-to-completion service in which he will shoot whatever image a client might envision. Then, to ensure the utmost quality of the photo mural, Foster will oversee all of the image processing, printing, and installation.

A Simple Way to Produce Durable, Kid-Friendly Wall Murals

Here’s a great example of how a LexJet customer is using Simple Flo wrap adhesive vinyl for a project other than vehicle wraps.

The Hawaii Children’s Discovery Center in Honolulu is a warm and friendly museum with hands-on instructional exhibits for children of all ages.  So when designers of a new facility at the center wanted to enliven the walls with bright, kid-friendly murals, it’s only natural that they would want materials that not only deliver ultra-vibrant colors but also extra durability and easy cleaning.

That’s why Pro Digital LLC of Honolulu, Hawaii is using LexJet Simple Flo wrap vinyl with a luster laminating film to create the murals.  Simple Flo wrap provides the opacity needed to prevent unsightly seams with overlapping panels. The repositionable adhesive on Simple Flo supports easy installation. Air-egress channels in the adhesive help prevent air bubbles and wrinkles.

Although the 2.4-mil Simple Flo wrap vinyl doesn’t disguise underlying imperfections in the wall surface as well as a WallPro textured wallcovering material would have, Pro Digital’s Bradley Igawa reports that the client is very pleased with how the installed mural looks.

Achieve Exceptional Image Quality on LexJet’s Three New Fabrics

LexJet has introduced three bright-white fabrics for producing exceptional image quality on soft signage and décor projects. The fabrics are designed for use with printers that use solvent and UV-curable inks and can be used to create display graphics that are easy to pack, ship, and store.

LexJet Linen SUV is a mid-weight 100% cotton fabric with a classic weave that adds a hint of artful texture to printed displays. Weighing in at 205 g/m² and measuring 13 mils thick, this bright-white fabric can be used to produce non-glare signage on a surface that looks like a fine linen.

LexJet Linen SUV is ideal for dozens of applications including table skirts, POP displays, store signage, décor, curtains, and backdrops. LexJet Linen SUV is available in 36- and 54-in. roll widths.

LexJet Poly Select SUV is a heavy, wrinkle-resistant, 100% polyester fabric with a uniformly tight weave that adds a visually pleasing, glare-reducing texture to indoor or outdoor graphics. Weighing 255 g/m² and measuring 13 mils thick, this bright-white fabric produces brilliant colors and provides the lay-flat properties required for use in banner stands and many other forms of trade-show graphics, store signage, and POP displays.

This fabric is ideal for murals, window displays and banners. LexJet Poly Select is available in 36-, 54-, and 64-in. roll widths.

LexJet Poly-Light FR SUV is an elegant, lightweight, fire-retardant polyester with a very tight, barely discernible weave. Measuring 6 mils thick and weighing 130 g/m², it combines a nice, silky feel with the smooth, bright-white surface needed to reproduce colorful, finely detailed images and designs. It drapes beautifully and meets the flame-resistance standards that many building codes require for fabrics used in public spaces.

LexJet Poly-Light FR SUV can be used for table skirts, backdrops, backlit displays, POP displays, store signage, trade-show graphics, and banner stands. LexJet Poly-Light FR SUV is available in 36-, 54-, and 64-in. roll widths.

How Wide-Format Printing Has Helped a Framing Shop Diversify

Somers, NY is a small Westchester County community about an hour’s commute from Manhattan. Because it is home to a number of artists and residents who appreciate good art, it is an ideal location for Somers Custom Framing, the full-service framing business run by custom-framing specialist Ken Ryan and his artist wife Ginny. Like many well-run framing businesses, the company has diversified in recent years.

Along with expertise in conservation framing, Somers Custom Framing now offers an artful array of graphic design, photo-restoration, and wide-format printing services. For example, in addition to giclee printing, Somers Custom Framing can print photo enlargements on canvas which Ginny Ryan can hand embellish with over-painting or texturing.

The Ryans also run a retail gift shop as well as an art gallery that sells Ginny’s work, original oil paintings by other local artists, plus limited editions, giclees, custom prints, and posters. As they explain on their website, “We provide our clients with top-quality products and services to address all of their personalized decorating needs, from picture framing to mural printing.”

Somers Custom Framing has also gotten involved in some retail décor projects. Recently, the Ryans worked with restaurant consultant Bonnie Saran to set the design stage for the new Bollywood Bistro Indian restaurant in Fairfax, VA.  Working with Saran’s ideas, the Ryans created several film-themed murals using stills of some of the best-known stars in Bollywood.

Using their Epson Stylus Pro 9800 wide-format inkjet printer, Ginny printed the murals in panels onto Photo Tex PSA, an inkjet-printable fabric that produces great image quality and is easy to put up and remove. No wall paste is needed and the material is water- and fade-resistant when used with the pigment inks.

The largest mural in the Bollywood Bistro is 13 ft. wide and 5 ft high. “We printed the large scene in strips, which Bonnie hung side-by-side in a seemingly seamless fashion,” explains Ginny Ryan.  Along with the main wall mural, Ginny produced seven additional 97 x 31-in. movie-ticket-themed prints on Photo Tex that decorate the entrance hallway and restaurant interior.

She used other materials from LexJet to print a menu board and window signs with the same Bollywood filmstrip motif as the wall prints.  For example, an Open/Closed sign was printed on a semi-matte photo paper from LexJet and mounted to foamboard with grommets at the top so it could be hung with a chain.

The graphics on the backlit cubes near the bar area of Bollywood Bistro are printed on LexJet 7 Mil Absolute Backlit film.

For the menu board, Ginny used LexJet’s 8 Mil Production Gloss Photo Paper which was then mounted to foamboard for display in the restaurant’s front window.

In addition, Ginny printed backlit graphics that complement the multi-colored lights that hanging from the ceiling from the restaurant. She printed the designs on LexJet’s 7 Mil Absolute™ Backlit film, which was then placed in several lit cubes that decorate the bar area.

The Bollywood Bistro project wasn’t the first store-design art project that Ginny Ryan had produced for Bonnie Saran. Ginny hand-painted a mural for a gift store in Croton Falls, NY and helped produce indoor and outdoor signage for several other restaurant ventures.

“For Bollywood Bistro, Bonnie described her vision to us and we came up with the best printing solution for her ideas,” explains Ginny. Whenever she was unsure which material to use for certain projects, Ginny Ryan called on LexJet account specialist Jennifer Hepner for advice.

“Whenever we have a new product idea, Jennifer is always available to troubleshoot the possible printing material choices with us.” says Ginny. “The wealth of knowledge she has about the materials LexJet offers is invaluable.”

In their gift shop, the Ryans sell custom photo pillows created with inkjet-printable 3P Country Cotton FR from LexJet.

Somers Custom Framing also uses inkjet-printable 3P Country Cotton FR from LexJet to produce three different sizes of photo pillows that they sell in their gift shop. Since launching the pillow designs eight months ago, they have sold more than 200 pillows.

“Our ability to create, new exciting products using different materials by LexJet is a fantastic asset to the store,” says Ginny Ryan.
