I Love L.A.! Printed Cityscapes Give Office Walls New Life

Custom Wallpaper by ThumbPrint

ThumbPrint, based in Simi Valley, Calif., was instrumental in transforming an office space in the heart of Los Angeles into a custom experience.

Wallpaper Graphics LexJet Pebble WallPro SUVWhat ThumbPrint’s Kenny Miller calls a “tenant improvement project” for the building located on Wilshire Boulevard near Beverly Hills was certainly improved with the addition of the black-and-white wall murals.

Three of the murals focus on Los Angeles cityscapes, while another features a classic photo of Ben Hogan swinging away on a golf course (the client is an avid golfer). The trick in pre-press was creating consistency among the murals, which ThumbPrint did by adjusting the levels so that the blacks and grayscale matched as closely as possible, creating consistency from mural to mural and room to room.

ThumbPrint Custom Wall GraphicsThe images were printed on LexJet Pebble WallPro SUV 15 oz. by York with a Seiko ColorPainter M-64s low-solvent printer with 3M SX inks, and applied with wallpaper paste.

Two of the cityscapes were applied in conference rooms and measure 89″ x 134″. The image with the palm trees in the foreground were applied to a freestanding wall, covering 89″ x 110″, and wrapped about eight inches around either side of the wall. The Ben Hogan photo is 90″ x 130″ and is the office’s focal point.

“We ordered samples of a few different textures, and Pebble was what the client wanted. It was a good choice because it has a real nice look and feel to the print with some dimension to it, and I like the price point. When you look at it from different angles it gives you a bit of shimmer shine to it. It printed great, and the customer was really excited when we installed it,” says Miller. “The WallPro went down on the walls better than I anticipated. I just went to the wallpaper store and got rollers and adhesive paste. It took about three and a half hours to apply all of it. I mostly do adhesive vinyl, which goes up faster, but this has a nicer look to it and it doesn’t show the seams like vinyl does. I like the way the 15-oz. applied to the wall; there was never a time I was frustrated with it. It completely transforms an office space into something custom and a more inviting space.”

A Recipe for Décor Printing at Avant Printing

Avant Printing Decor

Expert in décor printing (and every other type of wide-format printing), Avant Printing, Richmond, Calif., has found the perfect recipe for wall-mounted décor graphics for educational, government and corporate clients.

Avant Printing uses the HP L25500 Latex Printer for instant-dry printing on LexJet Sunset Photo Gloss SUV 275g.

Avant Printing for Corporate Clien“Everyone we’ve done prints for with the paper has loved it. They love the way it looks, and the great thing about the latex printer is that it comes out dry immediately and you don’t have to let it sit, so there is no time between print and laminate. On our aqueous printer, on the other hand, we like to give it at least 24 hours, if not 48, before we laminate,” says Robyn Rickansrud of Avant Printing.

The recipe is completed with a luster laminate, adds Rickansrud. The laminate is less for UV protection, and more to protect the graphics in high-touch zones, but more importantly to cut down on glare and provide a nice finish.

“The gloss paper provides the sharpness, contrast and color saturation so the images stand out,” says Rickansrud. “We fine-tuned the profile for the Sunset paper based on the HP Photo-realistic Poster Paper setting, and that worked well for nice output on the Latex printer.”

Print shops, fine art reproduction companies, professional photographers and other imaging companies looking for an economical photo paper for higher production runs now have a high-quality option for their photographic output: LexJet Sunset Production eSatin 250g.

Designed to maximize the enhanced output provided by the latest generation of aqueous inkjet printers from Canon, Epson and HP, the new photo paper is a lighter-weight version of Sunset Photo eSatin 300g, which has become the industry standard for reproducing high-end custom photographic, fine art and display work.

Manufactured to the high standards of the award-winning Sunset line of photo papers, fine art papers and canvas, Sunset Production eSatin provides the traditional satin e-surface that end-use customers demand.

“As a production coordinator I need to know my products and my output. I have been waiting for an answer for this type of photo paper, and this is it,” says Robert Dean of Great American Art, Stoughton, Mass. “On our initial trials it held its own when we did our side-by-side comparisons with a similar photo paper, and we like the Sunset Production eSatin better. The paper is brighter and just as durable and so far has proven to be a winner.”

Highly scratch-resistant and instant-dry, the new photo paper is perfect for production runs of posters, photography, corporate displays, retail graphics, décor and other applications where image quality at an economical price is crucial.

“Our goal was to exceed the quality of similar photo papers on the market while providing a better price point,” says Jaimie Mask, LexJet’s product manager. “Early feedback from our customers shows that we hit the target, particularly given the larger color gamut and pin-sharp detail the paper provides.”

Sunset Production eSatin is available for next-day delivery in most of the U.S. from one of LexJet’s nationwide distribution centers, and comes in 17-in., 24-in., 36-in., 44-in., 50-in., and 60-in. widths. As with all LexJet products they come with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
