HP Announces Designjet Z6200 Large-Format Photo Printer

At the Photokina 2010 show, HP introduced an 8-ink HP Designjet Z6200 Photo Printer series with new HP Vivid Photo Inks. The printer is designed for photo labs, digital print shops, ad agencies, design firms, and commercial printers who want to deliver photo-quality output at a speed that is about 50% faster than the HP Designjet Z6100. With a resolution of 2400 dpi and print speeds of up of 1500 sq. ft./hr., the Designjet Z6200 is designed for indoor applications ranging from line drawings to photographs and signage.

Survey Confirms Photographers Use Inkjet Printers for More than Photo Prints

Does your photography studio use your inkjet printer for purposes other than printing photos? If so, you’re not alone!

According to the I.T. Strategies’ 2010 survey of more than 1,200 photographers who own inkjet printers, 62% of the respondents are using their printers for more than photographic output.

ColorByte Software Enhances ImagePrint 8.0

The latest newsletter from ColorByte Software has two items of interest to users (and potential users) of ImagePrint 8.0 print-management software for inkjet photo and fine-art printing.

Version 8.0.0.4 is ready for download. This maintenance release is free to all owners of ImagePrint 8.0 and can be installed using ImagePrint’s Easy Updater. ImagePrint 8.0.0.4 improves file browser performance by caching thumbnails. It retains the cache even after ImagePrint is closed and a new session is started at a later time.

The Queue Manager has also been updated to support re-ordering of print jobs.

Survey Shows Why Photographers with Inkjet Printers Outsource Some Printing

Although pro-model inkjet printers are extremely versatile and can be used to produce many different types of photographs, promotional materials, and specialty products, about 30% of photographers who own pro-model inkjet printers continue to outsource some of their inkjet printing. This was one of the findings of an in-depth survey that I.T. Strategies conducted in May of 2010. More than 1,100 photographer-survey participants responded to the question: “Do you outsource inkjet printing?”

When asked about the volume of work they outsourced, 58% of respondents indicated they outsourced 10% or less of their total printing. Only 12% said they outsourced more than 50% of their printing work.

Meet the Winner of the Shine On! Print Contest: Ryan Joseph

At LexJet, we know that every great picture not only tells a story, but also has a story behind it. So we’re asking winners of the Shine On! Print Contest to tell us more about the stories behind the winning prints. Today, we’re pleased to introduce Best in Show Winner Ryan Joseph.

Like many well-trained artists, photographer Ryan Joseph of Ryan Joseph Photographics of Tampa, FL instinctively knows that not every image looks equally good on every type of print media.  For his particular style of photography (which is inspired by the master photographers of the 1930s and ‘40s), Ryan typically gravitates toward papers with the classic look and feel of the fiber papers he used in the darkroom. So, he had never printed many images on a metallic paper before.  Nor had he entered any print contests.

Paving Their Way to Success

I have wanted to get pavers installed around the pool area of our home pretty much since the day my husband and I moved in some 15 years ago, but I was somewhat hesitant about it after speaking with several people who had pavers installed that weren’t happy about either the process or the result.

Still, the time had come for us to replace what we had around the pool and we decided to look into pavers. We were very careful about who we selected to do the job for us. After researching several companies, we narrowed the list down to two firms.
