From floor-to-ceiling murals to thought-proving graphics for a children’s art center, LexJet customers printed some awesome – and awe-inspiring – images in 2019. Here are a few examples of what our creative and innovative customers designed throughout the year:

University Brings Football History to Life with Extreme AquaVinyl When it was time for the University at Buffalo to celebrate 100 years of football history, Kris Miller turned to LexJet for help designing the 35-foot by 10-foot mural that was the centerpiece graphic. “I’m not a professional installer, so whatever I use has to be easy to work with and install,” Miller says. Mixing Up the Painting Process with Canvas & Coating Combining oil painting and wide-format printing, San Francisco photo retoucher Leonard Gordon has his Surrealist-style artwork printed on Sunset by Fredrix Canvas, then protected with Sunset Satin Coating. Then he added additional texture with oil paints. “That’s what’s giving the painting depth. It’s all about bringing out the color of the print itself,” he says. READ MORE

New Exhibit Takes Flight with Floor-to-Ceiling Murals Inspired by an over-sized book by James Audubon, Nel Fetherling at the Field Museum in Chicago wanted to “go big” for an exhibition showcasing Audubon’s 19th-century work. Fetherling and her team printed six 14-foot x 75-inch wall murals as well as one for the entryway using LexJet Print-N-Stick Fabric. “The colors were so brilliant,” Fetherling says. “Our designer was skeptical, but after we printed it, she said the colors were almost better than the actual illustrations.” READ MORE

C’est Magnifique! Turning Antique French Postcards into Wall Art Photographer David Humphreys was tasked with turning old French postcards into 5-foot by 8-foot canvas murals for off-campus housing at Louisiana State University. Knowing he would need a 60-inch wide printer to accommodate the width of the images. Humphreys bought a Canon PRO-6000 and he’s pleased with the results. “The printer is incredible. It’s user-friendly and did a beautiful job,” he says. “Now I’m doing a lot of larger images for other people because of the 60-inch capability.” READ MORE

Sunset Photo Metallic Paper Beats Aluminum for Gallery Exhibit Hollywood director Blair Hayes wanted to create a new exhibit called Light of Future Past, from his movie-site images. He originally set out to print them on brushed aluminum for a sleek, modern look, but the bright gallery lights bounced off the aluminum and muddied the colors. Turning to Chris Glassman at Casual Graphics for suggestions, they settled on Sunset Photo Metallic Paper. “They stated to me that if it weren’t for Casual Graphics, the show would not have happened due to the lighting issues,” says Glassman. “I must state that if it wasn’t for the LexJet media, I wouldn’t have been able to provide a cost-effective alternative solution to aluminum prints.” READ MORE

Improve Overnight Printing Times with New Epson Printers

EPSON recently announced the addition of SureColor S60600 Bulk Ink and SureColor S80600 Bulk Ink printers to its line-up. With the new bulk ink systems, print service providers can extend unattended and overnight printing times without the worry of running out of ink.

Epson Bulk Ink System

The savings continue to add up with the cost per milliliter dropping to about $0.17/mL for the bulk system over the average $0.24/mL for the cartridge system.

With the large roll capacity (up to 9.5 in/250mm roll diameter and 95 lbs.) and high ink capacity, PSPs can set large print jobs to run overnight or while other projects are completed. Finishing and laminating the prints after 4-5 hours means a quick turnaround the next morning.

The S60600L has a dual-channel, four-color configuration, which leads to some of the industry’s fastest production speeds (banner – 550 sq. ft./hr.; vinyl – 310 sq. ft./hr.). With 10 colors, the S80600L offers a wide color gamut making it perfect for fine art reproductions.

For more information on these new bulk ink printers, visit LexJet.com or call one of LexJet printer specialist at 800-453-9538.

Consider Earth-Friendly Eco-Solvent Inks

As your customers’ and the industry’s attention continues to turn toward sustainable and eco-friendly print options, and with Earth Day right around the corner, it’s a good time to consider eco-solvent inks. Epson’s UltraChrome™ GS3 ink offers an alternative that addresses those concerns while also providing the print speed, durability and excellent color precision you demand from your solvent printer.

The new technology offered in Epson’s GS3 inks solve one of the biggest annoyances of solvent-based printing: the 24-hours needed for out-gassing. These inks will dry quickly and allow printers to add lamination when needed on the same day. And while the production speed of the Epson SureColor S-Series printers are a huge benefit for high-run projects, the GREENGUARD Gold certification adds another major benefit: Environmental responsibility.

GREENGUARD Gold is a nationally recognized certification that ensures that the tested product is safe to use in sensitive environments like schools and hospitals because they emit low chemical emissions while also complying with the State of California’s Department of Publish Health Services Standard Practice for Specification Section 01350. This gives designers and architects an edge to earn credits toward a LEED Green Building Rating — a big help when choosing canvas wrap materials and wallcoverings. The UltraChrome GS3 inks also meet the French-VOC A+ Class criteria for low chemical emissions.

Because Epson’s GS3 inks meet these stringent requirements, there is also no need for special ventilation or air purification required when operating the Epson SureColor S-Series printers.

“We’ve heard more and more from our print service provider customers that eco-friendly is in high-demand,” says our OEM product specialist, Shauna Malgieri. “I expect to see more sustainable products to come from our manufacturing partners this year, so stay tuned!”

EPSON Adds 4 Printers to the T-Series and a New Dry Lab

When it comes to professional dry lab imaging, the EPSON D-Series printers have been the industry standard for output. At the 2018 SGIA Expo, the new SureLab D700 was released. The new dry lab printer offers exceptional print speeds (up to 460 4×6-inch prints an hour) and simple media loading an unloading. This new printer also offers border-free prints in standard and custom sizes, as well as panorama printing with any 5-, 6-, or 8-inch roll media.

While the announcement of the SureLab D700 is exciting for professional labs and photographers, the release of the four new SureColor T-Series printers brings more options for the PSPs who are printing for GIS, construction, blueprints and line-drawings.

SureColor T3170 Wireless is a 24-inch desktop printer that fits nicely into small spaces, like construction trailers or retail offices. The wireless capability allows you to print directly from your phone or tablet anywhere in the office or print shop.

Epson SureColor T5170

SureColor T5170 Wireless is a 36-inch printer that allows for either sheet-fed or roll printing and offers the same benefits as the T3170.

SureColor T3470 24-inch and SureColor T5470 36-inch printers are ideal for high-production printing of line drawings, blueprints and posters. Sensitive information is safeguarded with advanced network security and encryption features. You can print either through router-free Wi-Fi printing or plug a USB thumb drive directly into the printer for PC-free printing.

Epson S-Series Printers: Don’t Miss Out on Décor Opportunities

In the everchanging world of POP and temporary signage, there is a niche market that many print service providers have missed: décor. If you have an EPSON SureColor S80600, you know the color gamut is unlike any other printer available in the solvent market. With 98.2% Pantone coverage, color-critical art reproductions and wall décor are as easy to produce as banners and signage.

When it comes to creating the perfect art piece, it’s not just about the printer. These days, many people want their home décor to offer the same sophisticated ambiance of a fine art museum. To recreate that look, Print Service Providers turn to a printable canvas, such as EPSON GS Canvas Gloss and GS Canvas Satin, that can be quickly and easily finished with stretcher bars for the perfect, personal masterpiece.

With the introduction of the Epson S-Series printers came the debut of reformulated GS ink. The quick-drying UltraChrome GS3 inks don’t require a protective coating, which means PSPs can offer a quick turnaround on the production of these high-end requests – turning an idea into gallery wrap in one day.

The ability to work with a print immediately is important, especially with time-sensitive jobs. Josh King of Sacramento Giclee says that using his S80600 has improved his turn-around time. “We used to have to print one day, let it dry for a day, spray coat it one day, and let it dry before we could stretch it. Now, with the SureColor printer, within an hour, I can stretch a canvas,” says King.

Of course, what is a masterpiece without a perfect showcase? Having canvas prints professionally wrapped can be an expensive endeavor, which is why many of LexJet’s clients are using GOframe Stretcher bars to create gallery wraps for their customers.

The purpose of décor is to add warmth to a space. By creating personalized art pieces for your clients, you are not only offering them a print, you are helping them turn a house into a home.
