Wall Couture Makes an Impact with Man Under Water

Ken Gemes Interiors creates inviting, timeless interior environments for the discerning home owner, whether that owner is ensconced in the city or wants to revitalize a more pastoral location.

Having recently moved to the firm’s new location in Mount Vernon, N.Y., founder and president Ken Gemes transformed a warehouse space into a showcase of the firm’s design expertise. One of the pivotal components of the new space is a 15-foot-wide by 9 1/2-foot tall conference room wall mural from décor specialist Soicher Marin, based in Sarasota, Fla.

Soicher Marin has developed a line of wall coverings called Wall Couture™ that combines LexJet’s Print-N-Stick Fabric as the base material with designs, patterns, photos, art and graphics from Soicher Marin’s extensive art library, each uniquely selected and custom-printed for the client’s environment.

One of the benefits of Wall Couture/Print-N-Stick is its ease of use: it’s repositionable, removable and re-usable, and much easier to apply than traditional wallpaper or adhesive-backed vinyl. In this case, Soicher Marin printed the photograph, Man Under Water, in eight 28-inch-wide panels and sent the panels to Ken Gemes Interiors.

“Soicher Marin gave us excellent instructions and the mural went up without a hitch,” says Gemes. “The image is a real show-stopper in the conference room, and adds a big wow factor to our space.”

Soicher Marin’s Katie Bellinder says the key to a seamless application is in the overlap. “We print an inch overlap so that when they apply it to the wall, you put the first panel down, then the second one next to it with an inch of overlap, and so forth for each subsequent panel,” she says. “Then, you take a straight edge and cut off the overlaps so that you have perfect seams that don’t show. It’s not like traditional wallpaper, where you almost always have leftover material you won’t use. We print only what they need.”

The mural was printed on Soicher Marin’s HP Latex 260 Printer. Bellinder says the latex inks provide additional durability, and that scuff marks and dirt are easily removed with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.

Vinyl Application Christmas Gift

Just in time for Christmas, Stephen Weber, owner of Stephen Edward Graphics, Brandon, Wis., treated himself to an early gift, a 56-inch wide Big Squeegee. Just in time, too, since he had some large (4×8) background panels to print for a Christmas play at a local church.

Big Squeegee Vinyl Application“I had never applied vinyl to something that big. Typically we use a hand squeegee. I started doing it with a hand squeegee and realized it wouldn’t work very well,” recalls Weber. “I found out about the Big Squeegee at an online forum. I ordered it, tried it and the first one worked flawlessly.”

Weber produced three large panel backdrops, printed on HP Permanent Adhesive Matte Vinyl with his new HP Latex 310 Printer from LexJet.

HP Latex 310 Printer“You roll the print up onto a roll. The squeegee sits behind the roll and you walk the squeegee down the board. It takes the backer off as you apply it and goes right along the board,” explains Weber. “It came out real smooth. You can also use it to apply laminates. I didn’t laminate these prints, but I’ve printed some car decals that I applied laminate to and it worked very well. Then you can take it to the cutter and contour-cut it.”

Last Chance for Substantial Savings on HP Printers at LexJet in 2014

The New Year is almost upon us, and HP is offering a number of rebates and incentives through the end of the year that will prepare you for a profitable 2015. Also, be sure to look into capital equipment tax breaks if you purchase a new printer before the end of the year at LexJet.

Video: A Printable Vinyl that Doubles as a Dry Erase Board with HP Latex Inks

Over the past few months, Berea Printing‘s production manager, Phil Crawford, has put two print materials to the test, reviewed their performance, and disclosed the results through video (click on the links below to see the videos):

Using Dry Erase Markers on LexJet Simple Adhesive VinylThis time around, Crawford reveals a new find: LexJet Simple Adhesive Vinyl SUV – Gloss (5 Mil) can double as a dry-erase board when used with the HP Latex Printer and HP Latex Inks, based on his testing. In most cases to make a graphic dry-erasable, you need to use a special laminate on top of the print.

“We’ve had requests from customers who use dry-erase boards for presentations who would like to mark on top of presentation graphics and use dry-erase markers. We found that this vinyl with the HP Latex Inks works for that application,” says Crawford. “The HP Latex Ink will stick even if you use a little water to wipe off a ballpoint pen mark. It’s a nice item to offer because a lot of corporations, businesses and schools are looking for a dry-erase solution, so we should market it more.”
