Unfolding Creative is Printing a New Path in Large-Format Fine Art

True to its name, Unfolding Creative — a small printing business based in Metro Detroit– thrives on a company mission of tailoring unique products to the exact needs of its clients. Founded in 2010, Unfolding Creative has developed from its inchoate days of specializing in aqueous-based products, and now offers a wide range of services to creative artists, businesses and more.

The company produces a variety of outdoor signage, photo reprints, custom canvases, building wraps and more. However, its primary niche is large format fine art and photographic output tailored to the needs of artists, designers and photographers.

“We try not to bring too much monotony during the day,” says founder and owner Alan Vultaggio. “We work with a variety of people, so it’s nice to have something different from day to day.”

Vultaggio, who has a background in photography and fine art, has been in the sign and display industry for over 15 years. He originally began doing vehicle graphics and boat lettering back in 2000, exploring multiple areas of technical design and signage before ultimately creating his own business. He considers Unfolding Creative’s greatest success to be the range of products it offers in both the indoor and outdoor markets. It also has had great success in the versatility of its products, offering “custom-tailored” work to its clients.

“One of the things we try to do is hear and understand the needs of our clients without giving some sort of loaded or prepackaged product to them,” he says. “One of the things that turns me off is if I try to push a product too much. We’re not trying to be Amazon.com – to me, it’s not just about a product or object, but being functional and geared toward someone else’s goals and missions.”

Many of Unfolding Creative’s products are displayed around the Metro Detroit area, adding splashes of color and art to the community. Vultaggio hopes that viewers will be inspired by the vivid imagery and quality of work. “One of our goals is to have impact… We’re not in the business of making eyesores,” says Vultaggio with a laugh. “We create harmony in design.”

Unfolding Creative has been a loyal customer of LexJet for many years, ever since Vultaggio stumbled across the website. “It was a situation where a client was looking for a product, and [LexJet’s] came with a guarantee that if you don’t like it, you can send it back, and we just ended up using them from then on,” he says. Unfolding Creative is equipped with an Epson wide-format solvent printer, along with products such as LexJet Premium Archival Matte Paper, LexJet Sunset Photo Metallic Paper 255g and LexJet Sunset Photo Satin SUV 275g, to name a few.

One of the aspects that has made Vultaggio a returning client is the customer service. “Richard Burke has been a pretty strong advocate for us in feeling out our needs,” he says. “He has been a great contact in terms of moving along the relationship and asking us if we need help… it’s one of those things where the relationship has been built because he’s gone above and beyond.”

Vultaggio hopes to continue developing Unfolding Creative, growing client relationships, furthering the rapport with LexJet and offering high-quality products.

“We want to grow and to continue to offer and help… I look forward to the different projects we get” he says. “That’s why I named the company Unfolding Creative, because it has the element of looking around the corner, never knowing what’s next.”
