Point of Sale Print Horsepower at Standard Distributing

The top beverage distributor in Delaware requires a top-notch print shop to win space at the point of sale and build the brands they sell. Standard Distributing Co., New Castle, Del., has the advantage of quality and quantity at the point of sale through the work of its print shop, led by sign industry veteran Matt Glick.

Standard Distributing recently added the Epson SureColor S30670 low-solvent printers to its printer lineup.
Standard Distributing recently added the Epson SureColor S30670 low-solvent printer to its printer lineup.

Before joining the Standard Distributing team nine years ago, Glick had worked with grand format solvent VUTEk printers. Glick already knew the ins and outs of these 10-foot-wide industrial machines and has translated that experience into an efficient and productive print shop.

Glick recently brought in Epson’s new SureColor S30670 low-solvent printer that he got from LexJet to add to a printer arsenal that also includes an Epson GS6000 low-solvent and HP Designjet Z6100 aqueous printer.

LexJet Simple Adhesive Vinyl SUV“We had another solvent printer for about eight years and it wasn’t producing the quality and speed we needed, so we got the Epson SureColor from LexJet. The clarity and visibility of the colors is much better; the colors just look richer. Everything I print on the Epson is clear and the resolution is better, and there’s no smell, and the speed is fantastic,” explains Glick. “One prints scrim banners and window perf, the other prints adhesive-backed vinyl, and the Z6100 prints paper posters, banners and temporary stuff. It speeds up production when I don’t have to worry about changing materials every time there’s a different job; we can nest them together on the same printer.”

Window Sign by Standard DistributingIn addition to the print production horsepower provided by those printers, there’s also a Seal 410 laminator for mounting and laminating, a rotary cutter and a 72″ large-format cutter for finishing.

Glick estimates that about 60 percent of the 400-600 designs created in the shop each month are prints applied to Coroplast, 30 percent banners and 10 percent specialty graphics, like perforated window film, floor graphics and counter-top graphics.

For banners, Glick’s material of choice is LexJet TOUGHcoat Water-Resistant Polypropylene; for adhesive-backed applications on Coroplast and aluminum it’s LexJet Simple Adhesive Vinyl SUV; and for window graphics it’s LexJet Simple Perforated Window Vinyl (60/40). Glick adds that perforated window vinyl graphics are an effective way to get tap handles into an account

“My biggest challenge is over-marketing our accounts. We want to be as visible as possible without being so busy that we lose the message in the process,” explains Glick. “Simple is always better and consistency is another important ingredient. From a production standpoint it’s been helpful to work with a vendor like LexJet. My rep, Kyle Stephens, has been very helpful with my questions, he’s accessible, and he always seems to have the shipping down so we get the products we need when we need them; the customer service has been outstanding.”

LexJet’s Contract as a Preferred Print Shop Supplier for MillerCoors Distributors Extended

LexJet was recently contracted to be a preferred print shop supplier for MillerCoors distributor print shops. The ongoing agreement with Distributors Solutions LLC (DSI), Golden, Colo., runs through March 15, 2017. LexJet’s contract was renewed based on its service, support, pricing, product breadth and on-time product delivery to the MillerCoors distribution network.

Point of sale graphicsIn July 2007, DSI signed an exclusive agreement with Coors (now MillerCoors) to negotiate and manage preferred supplier programs on behalf of the distributor network in a wide range of categories, including office supplies with Office Depot, a cell phone program with Verizon Wireless and AT&T, an updated fleet program with GM, Chrysler, and Ford, and the print shop supplies program with LexJet, among others.

Since the print shop supply program was initiated in late 2007, more than 400 distributors have actively participated in the LexJet/DSI Preferred Print Shop Supplier program, including some of the largest beverage distributors in the nation, such as Reyes Holdings, Coors Distributing Center, Superior Beverage, United Distributors, Glazers, Manhattan Beer Distributors, Mesa Beverage Company, Cone Distributing, Crest Beverage, Origilio Beverage, RMC Distributing, The Beer Company, and DeCrescente Distributing Company.

According to Ali Comeaux, General Manager, Distributors Solutions LLC, LexJet was chosen out of several potential vendors “based on LexJet’s competitive pricing, its record of outstanding customer service, and its enthusiasm for the program.”

LexJet’s custom program includes free and unlimited product and technical support, a flexible printer-financing program for aqueous, solvent, latex and UV-curable wide-format printers, free educational resources – which include the bi-monthly eNewsletter, POS Express – and a Web portal that allows program participants to view their orders and product history, track shipments, and access technical data sheets, product specifications, ICC profiles, application education and information, and more.

“DSI has been a great partner and we are honored that they continue to see the value LexJet brings to MillerCoors distributors through the five-year extension of our contract,” says Jason Metnick, LexJet vice president. “We will continue to bring value to the network and, most importantly, find new and innovative ways for our distributor customers to drive more sales at the point of sale.”

LexJet’s state-of-the-art distribution and tracking system allows timely delivery – including same-day and one-day delivery – through its nationwide distribution network. LexJet account specialists have access to real-time stock levels at all locations, and products can be tracked by participants 24/7 at lexjet.com.

“Our relationship with LexJet has been extremely beneficial and worthwhile. LexJet has lowered our costs and sped up product delivery times, while providing a wider selection of high-quality products, which is everything I’m looking for in a supplier,” says Mike Duka, graphic designer for United Distributors, Atlanta. “Whenever we have any questions or concerns LexJet is always there for us, whether it’s product information or troubleshooting any issues we may have in production.”

Laminates, Shipping and Customer Service

Finding laminates for inkjet printingI recently called one of LexJet’s customers out of the blue looking for some general feedback on laminates and lamination for one of our industry magazines. The customer, Ray Thompson, Jr. of Signs & Designs in Memphis, happily obliged.

A big part of our discussion revolved around how much Thompson appreciates his LexJet customer specialist, David Ianotti, and how Ianotti has been a valuable resource for the 35-year-old company that’s evolved from a modest hand-painted sign business to a digitally-driven powerhouse.

“If he says he’ll do something for me, it happens immediately. If he says, ‘I’ll check on that,’ I usually get an email within 30 seconds. He keeps me very updated; I don’t even have to ask questions. I order something and he lets me know all the parameters of my inventory and shipping,” says Thompson. “Our production had increased by 35 percent, and we were running out of available stock.  David made a spot for us in the closest warehouse so we could get it super fast every time we order it. David was able to work it out quickly, and the laminate has been a consistent product with no defects roll to roll.”

The consistent product Thompson alluded to above is LexJet Performance Satin UV Vinyl (3 Mil), aka SATLAM. “We’ve had really good success with SATLAM. We’re in a very high moisture area, and one of the advantages is that it has a silica based backer on it, which makes it easier to work with. We’ve tried just about every laminate on the market and this is one of the best we’ve used.”

LexJet Acquires On a Roll Color Imaging

LexJet acquires On a Roll Color ImagingOn a Roll Color Imaging customers now have access to LexJet’s extensive and varied digital imaging product line following LexJet’s acquisition of the Orange, Calif.-based company earlier this month.

“We were able to move over to LexJet’s Sunset Select Matte Canvas from On a Roll’s canvas and there were no problems with the switch; we’re very happy with LexJet,” says Lou Fiore of Speedway Custom Photo Lab in Daytona Beach, Fla. “We also get a high level of service and support from LexJet, plus product delivery we can count on. LexJet tells me when I’m going to get my products and I get them the day they were promised, and it’s usually the next day.”

All shipping, product and customer logistics have been transitioned to LexJet and built into its technology infrastructure to ensure no interruption in service to On a Roll Color Imaging customers, who, like all LexJet customers, can expect the following:

  • Personal support: LexJet customers always speak with a person who can help them between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. ET. Moreover, customers who call in will not be on hold for more than ten seconds or have to navigate through frustrating and seemingly infinite phone trees
  • Products plus: LexJet customers have access to thousands of products that address the entire inkjet-printing workflow and are designed to build their business, all with unlimited and free technical and product support from personally-assigned customer specialists
  • Nationwide shipping: LexJet customers receive products quickly from its nationwide delivery network at a flat rate of $9.99 for every order, every time, no matter how large the order

“Our number-one priority – whether it’s bringing On a Roll Color Imaging’s customers on board, working with a new customer or an existing customer – is to ensure the best possible experience for each customer,” says Pete Petersen, LexJet CIO. “An integral component of that is our continual investment in technology systems so that it’s as easy as possible for our customers to get what they need. With fewer hassles and unwanted surprises in the process, they can focus on developing their core business.”
