Last week, LexJet sent a group of its customer specialists to Alpharetta, Ga., home of the HP Graphic Arts Experience Center, to receive more in-depth and hands-on training on HP’s line of Latex printers, including the Latex 210 61″ Printer, Latex 260 61″ Printer and Latex 280 104″ Printer.

HP Latex Academy with LexJetThe crew was also charged with finding out if HP’s Latex Academy is good use of your time if you either own an HP Latex printer or are interested in procuring one for print production. The overwhelming response from the LexJeters who attended was a resounding, “Yes!”

Joe Pudlo, one of the LexJet customer specialists who attended said: “Latex training consisted of both classroom and hands-on applications. Our trainer was extremely thorough and knowledgeable; he has tested a majority of inkjet media on the market.”

Building Business with In-House Inkjet Printing and Samples at Arc Studios

Printing Promotional Graphics with an Inkjet PrinterAaron Thomason, owner of Arc Studios Photography in Dalton, Ga., knows the value of a print. It’s what helps showcase and sell his artistic portrait photography.

With a variety of inkjet-printable media from which to choose through LexJet, Thomason is able to present his work in a variety of formats, each with its own unique look.

“I don’t have to do any advertising other than the promotional printing I do for my studio and storefront. I can place a banner stand next to the street so people driving by can see it, so I get a lot of people stopping in who saw it when they drove or walked by the studio,” says Thomason. “I typically use a big image with just a few simple words so that my studio is in the back of their mind when they need something I can provide.”

For banner stands, Thomason uses a LexJet Blizzard Outdoor Stand with LexJet TOUGHcoat Water-Resistant Polypropylene, and on his storefront windows he uses Photo Tex Repositionable Fabric. “I change those images up regularly and they work great. They see some rain and other weather, but the images have held up fine,” says Thomason.

He also uses LexJet Sunset Photo Metallic Paper for images that lend themselves to the pearlescent pop of the paper.

“Before I started doing my own printing I was lucky if I sold one canvas print per session. Now I’m able to sell three or four canvases per portrait client since I was able to bring the price down by doing it in-house,” explains Thomason. “We stretch the canvas here on a 1 1/2″ frame and add the UV coating, so I’m able to produce canvas less expensively for my customers, deliver it on time and ultimately sell more canvas.”

Marketing Mystery Solved with Perforated Window Film

LexJet Aqueous Perforated Window VinylFort Stewart’s Family & MWR Marketing team found the ideal solution to a vexing mystery: how to attract as many people as possible to an upcoming murder mystery dinner theater at the army installation near Savannah, Ga.?

The answer was to advertise it on the glass doors leading into the venue that will host the dinner theater this Friday. With one answer down, the next question was how to get the advertising graphic, designed by marketing director Kathy Milley, on the window.

Molly Cooke of Fort Stewart Family & MWR Marketing found that answer at LexJet through her customer specialist Vincent Bejar, who recommended LexJet Aqueous Perforated Window Vinyl (70/30) for the project.

“We were trying to get as much interest in the event as possible, so we ordered this awesome film and this was our first project with it,” says Cooke. “Vincent told us what settings to use on our Canon iPF9100 printer, we printed it, cut it out and applied it.”

Cooke adds that the application went smoothly, particularly given that this was their first attempt applying a window graphic. She says it was easy to smooth out the bubbles in the perforated window vinyl during application. Obviously applied in two pieces, the graphic was adhered to the window from the middle to the outside of each glass door.

“We’re stoked about how this turned out, which is at a facility on the installation called Club Stewart where the event will take place. There’s a restaurant called Thunder Run inside the facility and they host a number of events in it as well,” explains Cooke. “People go through those doors every day at lunch so we thought it was a great location to apply it. Everyone who’s seen it on the door think it’s the coolest thing ever. We’ve gotten great response and ordered a couple more rolls because people want to use it for other promotions. It’s very beneficial to us for marketing events.”

A Welcome Sight: Promoting Georgia and Photography at the Border

Photo art prints on canvas

Veteran professional photographer Lee Cathey, who owns Multi-Image Studio in La Grange, Ga., will be hanging his work at a Georgia welcome center near the Alabama border this week. The welcome center, located down the road in West Point, was looking for unique photography to bring added interest to all things Georgia.

Photo art inkjet printing on canvasWith a combination of scenic Georgia shots – including nighttime and aerial views – Cathey answered the call from the welcome center. Well known in the area for his 30-plus years of commercial work, Cathey was the logical choice to add visual punch to the center.

Cathey chose about ten images, which he calls “chamber of commerce type photos,” and printed them on LexJet Sunset Select Matte Canvas with his Canon iPF8100. “It’s kind of crafty with the half-inch wrap on float frames I made for this project,” he says. “And, it helps promote the welcome center and my own giclee printing services and photography. It’s all about networking and if I pick up a customer or two it’s a good thing.”

Reproducing fine art photos with inkjet printing on canvasThe prints were finished with LexJet Sunset Gloss Coating and Sunset Satin Coating. At times, he says, he mixes the two coatings – 70 percent Gloss and 30 percent Satin – to get just the right sheen he’s after. “You get a little bit of contrast that way and the prints look nicer to me,” he adds. “I had just been spraying with aerosols before and I wasn’t real happy with that. It’s more economical, it looks better and it’s more consistent with the Sunset coatings and the sprayer. I’ve been tickled with the Sunset products.”

The canvas wraps range from about 35 inches wide to 16” x 20”. Most of the prints are in the 20” x 24” range. “I’ve got about ten prints and I’m debating whether or not I have space for that many,” says Cathey. He’ll find out on Thursday when he hangs the prints at the welcome center. His exhibition is expected to run through Dec. 31.
