For PPR Pix, ChromaLuxe Was the Answer for Customer Demand

When his customers started asking for ChromaLuxe metal photo panels, James Marks of PPR Pix in Atlanta, Ga., started researching how to add the colorful photo reproduction option to his operation. That also included the purchase of a new Epson SureColor F6200 dye-sublimation printer.

“We had been looking at getting into metal and there isn’t another local place in Atlanta to do metal printing,” Marks says. “Some of our customers had asked about it, and so we wanted to get our toes in there and jump.”

Luckily, LexJet had launched a full-solution dye-sub line earlier this year, which included the ChromaLuxe panels in clear and white options. Using dye-sub printing and transfer technology, the ink is infused into the special coating on the panels, delivering vibrant, exceptionally detailed and durable images on these lightweight aluminum panels. Marks offers numerous options for the metal prints, including hanging panels, shadow displays and table-top easels. The ease of use and quick printing process was a bonus. “You can print it out and transfer it onto metal in 10 minutes,” Marks says, “We offer really fast turnaround time on that, and the stuff looks awesome.”

PPR Pix sells and rents photography equipment and lighting along with other studio rentals to professional photographers in the area, and ChromaLuxe printing added another dimension for the business.

“I started the print lab six years ago in June, and we opened that up because our customer base is mostly portrait and wedding photographers, and I wanted to tap into that market and be a one-stop shop” for photographers needing equipment and wanting to print their work.

In addition to dye-sub printing, Marks also runs canvas, photo and fine-art paper and more on an Epson SureColor P20000 printer.
