It’s been a while in the making, but this week Epson announced four new printers in its SureColor P-Series, which are the replacements for the Stylus Pro 7890, 7900, 9890 and 9900 printers. They will be available for shipping in October 2015.
These new machines have been upgraded with all new reformulated ink, the UltraChrome HD (or HDX) for higher dMax, wider color gamut and increased print longevity.
Another important improvement is the user-selectable auto-cleaning schedule to keep those print heads in good health. Users can set the self-cleaning mode for anywhere from every six hours to every 60 hours. A new ink-repellent coating on the print heads will also help to keep nozzle clogging issues to a minimum.
The new Epson SureColor P6000 and P8000 replace the 7890 and 9890 printers. At 24-inches and 44-inches, respectively, these machines have the upgraded eight-color pigment ink set, making them ideal for designers, commercial printers and photographers.
The new Epson SureColor 24-inch P7000 and 44-inch P9000 replace the 7900 and 9900 printers. Designed for professional proofing and photographic use, they have the Epson PrecisionCore TFP print head and the 10-color UltraChrome HDX pigmented ink set.
Photographers are served well with the standard ink set that includes light-light black to ward off bronzing. Professional proofers needing top-of-the-line color-matching ability can opt for the all new optional violet color, which Epson says offers 99-percent PANTONE® FORMULA GUIDE solid coated color-matching. Violet is available in the P7000 Commercial and P9000 Commercial options.
Epson notes a few more advancements:
- Superior black density
- Improved gloss uniformity
- Better print permanence
- Laser print head technology
- A more powerful controller board
- New workflow features, like an optional internal 320 GB print server and improved Epson SpectroProofer spectrophotometer
