Innovation Inspired Us at SGIA Expo 2017

The weather may have threatened, but that didn’t stop the SGIA Expo from going on! And we were so glad that it did. We found inspiration everywhere we looked around the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. With 600 exhibitors and more than 19,000 people in attendance, the power of printing — on nearly every conceivable surface — could be heard loud and clear.

Walking the show floor, we were thrilled to see some of our partners featuring and launching some great new products. From HP, we we learned about the upgraded HP PrintOS Mobile, which not only helps printers stay on top of printer data, job history, KPIs and service calls, it allows their supplier to track their needs, too. A great tool to enhance those relationships and keep production running right on time.

We couldn’t help but stop in our tracks when we came across the Fredrix Canvas booth, where they made pillows with Fredrix Natural Raw Canvas printed with latex technology, and cool customized coasters fabricated with Fredrix 575 Tempo Canvas and finished with a Marabu top coat. At Fredrix, they are really changing the way we think about printing everyday products.

Front & Back Thermal Laminates Protect Posters at the Right Price

For many of us, running to catch a plane leaves little time to stroll through airport retail outlets, but inevitably, there’s that long layover … or the delayed flight. That’s when we end up meandering over to the shops. And to entice our purchases, posters beckon us in with deals and specials.

Chances are, those posters were printed at Paradies Lagardere Travel Retail‘s busy Atlanta printing operation, where the team turns out hundreds of posters and other signage every month that’s displayed in airports all over the U.S. and Canada.

While the signs are replaced each month, they still need to get the job done, says Wade Ervin, who heads up the printing jobs. “Everything is constantly changing,” he says. “That sign goes up in front of an airport gift shop, and after the 30-day sale is over, it gets thrown away.”

Tip of the Week: Picking the Best Media for Printing Posters

Do you know where to start when choosing the best media for printing posters? We sat down with LexJet product guru, Jeff Leto, and talked about how important it is to determine the best weight, size and finish for your posters.

When you’re looking for the right poster material, pay close attention to its gram weight. A lighter gram weight is meant for things like movie posters or smaller signage, while a heavier gram weight is best for large window displays. The larger the sign, the heavier the gram weight should be in order to ensure a flat, smooth surface.

The finish is also an important factor when finding the perfect poster material. There are lots to choose from like matte, satin, semi-matte, gloss and high-gloss. The finish of the poster depends on the environment the poster will be displayed in. Some great examples of different finishes would be the Sunset Photo Gloss, the LexJet HydroTOUGH Poster and the HP Photo-realistic Poster Paper. All of these materials are compatible with latex printers, so you know you’re getting durable, cost-effective posters for all your business needs.

Photo Papers the Pros Trust

Clark Marten KODAK media

Kodak has been a trusted name in the photo industry since 1888, when it was founded by George Eastman in Rochester, NY. These days, Kodak brings its mastery of all things photo-related to inkjet media that is compatible with Epson, Canon and HP printers.

Today’s Scouting Report focuses on Kodak Professional Inkjet Photo Papers, Glossy Finish and Lustre Finish. These papers were updated in 2012 to perform even better with modern inkjet printer inks. They have a larger color gamut and higher Dmax to produce images with richer blacks, a wide color spectrum and the finest details, even in shadows.

This true-color output makes the Kodak photo papers ideal for weddings, high-end retail, landscape, portraits, exhibit photography and more. The lay-flat technology that keeps the papers from curling make them easy to work with and ideal for portraits, as well.

Kodak Professional Inkjet Photo Paper, Glossy Finish weighs in at 255 gsm with a smooth, high-gloss finish for maximum impact. Kodak Professional Inkjet Photo Paper, Lustre Finish weighs in at 255 gsm with a satin finish similar to e-surface papers used in traditional darkroom printing. Plus, they have the Kodak watermark printed on the back — a symbol recognized by discerning end-customers.

Both resin-based inkjet photo papers are available in various sheet and roll sizes up to 60 inches wide. Call a LexJet representative to learn more about Kodak’s modern media at 800-453-9538.
