HP and Canon Debut New Printers

Trade-show season is typically filled with new product launches, and 2018 did not disappoint. HP and Canon both debuted new printers at FESPA and SGIA.

HP Makes a Splash at FESPA 2018

HP DesignJet Z6610

HP announced of the new suite of DesignJet Z-series printers, designed to increase production, reduced print costs with improved color gamut, and the first ever DesignJet printer with a vertical trimmer.

The 60-inch wide HP DesignJet Z6610 Production Printer (6-color) and DesignJet Z6810 Production Printer (8-color) are built to handle high-speed printing (up to 548 sq. ft. on plain paper) and long, unattended workloads because of long-roll handling, 775-ml ink capacity, and a built-in take-up reel.

The HP DesignJet Z6 PostScript Printer (6-color) and DesignJet Z9+ PostScript Printer (9-color with Gloss Optimizer option) offer SecureBoot and an encrypted hard disk to preserve confidentiality. The Z6dr and Z9+dr offer the additional benefits of dual roll handling and the vertical trimmer, reducing the need to switch media rolls between jobs and manual trimming in post-production.

Canon Takes Strides to Improve CAD Printers

At the 2018 SGIA show, Canon introduced the imagePROGRAF TM Series of CAD printers. The new line of printers improves upon the previous generation of IPF CAD printers by increasing speeds by as much as 23% and reducing ink consumption by as much as 21%.

  • Lei Series: The 24-inch TM-200 MFP L24ei and 36-inch TM-300 MFP L36ei allow for scanning and sharing of documents through the ScanApp Lei software that is simple and easy to operate for low volume, entry-level users.

HP Unveils New DesignJet Printers at FESPA Global Print Expo

This week, HP announced the new DesignJet Z6 and Z9+ printers. These printers are designed to offer amazing photo quality with higher print permanence fewer inks, reducing costs and improving manageability.

Available June 1, 2018, the DesignJet Z6 and Z6x10 printers were designed for Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and retailers who are looking for an easy way to create high-quality technical and graphics applications. These printers offer security for data and an encrypted hard disk. The crisp, sharp imaging means the fine detail comes through in every print.

For print service providers looking to expand into printing professional photos while continuing to offer indoor and outdoor signage, the Z9+ series – also available on June 1, 2018 – will offer enhanced HP Vivid ink sets, creating high-definition images.

The 44-inch DesignJet Z6 and Z9+ with dual-roll and vertical trimmer are expected to be available in July. These printers will offer the ability to have multiple rolls available for long print runs or the ability to save time by keeping different media types at the ready.

HP also announced the addition of two innovative new products to the Wide Format Media Portfolio:

  • HP Everyday Blockout Display Film with a unique construction of three layers of polypropylene, polyester, and polypropylene film for an added suppleness and superior lay-flat properties. It is a thicker film compared to 100 percent polyester, costs less, and has a coating for dual ink technology.
